shanghai skies the way they felt that night
Can a party get more nomadic than this? The Urban Safari took place an unforgettable summer night which also happened to be oni’s 35th birthday. We celebrated in style with 50 guests, most of them designers or working in the creative field.
zou & oni in the shanghai wilderness
The night started at the Urban Castle – that’s how we named our antique-asian-style 70-sqm apartment in downtown Shanghai. Guests were told to arrive on time in order not to miss the departure. The type of route and vehicle was kept secret all night, until we got everyone out and down on the street and to our guests surprise boarded the second floor of an open air double-decker that would drive us rocking all over the city.
The two hour tour took us all over downtown Shanghai and up on the Bund with a few stops to pick up visitors from iF design awards, get more drinks, and bring along our German friend Lars who we convinced to fly down from his business trip in north China just to join the last half hour of the tour. No regrets, right!
Tree branches and high-voltage power cables hanging from above made the tour more dangerous than expected but did not destroy the unique safari mood; the spirit was high even when Gregor hit his chin on a hanging cable and had to leave the bus for a quick hospital visit. He came back later to join the after party at Barbarossa, where we ended the night in the rooftop bar. We heard Gregor now has a cool scar on his chin as a reminder of the night.

this is before gregor's accident... watch out for those power cables!
